Choice Music Prize shortlist out tomorrow

The Choice Music Prize shortlist will be revealed on the website and on Today FM at 3pm.

Who will it be? If I was a judge (*sung in a Beyonce voice*), I'd pick;

Fight Like Apes
Jape
Heathers
Ham Sandwich
RSAG
Lisa Hannigan
Adebisi Shank
Pony Club
Republic of Loose
Messiah J & The Expert

Although I think Chequerboard, Katie Kim, The Script and Snow Patrol stand a chance of getting in. If I was a betting woman (*sung in Beyonce voice*), I'd put money on Jape to win. He faces stiff competition from the Apes, but I think a bunch of judges would go for Jape. Then again, once you're in that room, fucking anything can happen.

Meanwhile, Choice honcho Jim Carroll is offering €100 to the person who gets the shortlist right.

No, anyone can buy tickets for the vicar st gig. Its a v fun night. Get them early though because it sells out. I presume they will go on sale soon enough.

I most definitely want to go, and I'm sure a couple more members of The Coven will want to too. We should get organised, tickets go on sale on Monday.

No Jimmy Cake in your 10?
A definite highlight for me

Going to the thing never appealed to me. Seeing everyone play 2 songs then bugger off doesn't sound like a good gig.

Well, its not really a 'gig', just more of an interesting night with a bunch of performances. Its exciting too, obviously - the tension builds as the evening progresses. As a night out, its something pretty different. Im suprised, ian, i thought as a music fan it would be something fun and different that youd be into.

The Priests!! Fantastic! Punk Rock 2009!!

Jim - I nearly put the Priests in there but just looking at what was released this year the 10 I chose are the best 10 albums of the year.

good luck picking a winner!! I'd say JAPE and Lisa Hannigan will fight it out!

Well I have issues in general with the notion of awards for non-quantifiable things like music, on the other hand I do appreciate that the purpose of the Choice award is more to throw light on Irish music and get people talking about it so it does serve a positive purpose.

Also the people that get nominated that play, I'd sooner go and see them play ther own full gig.

Anonymous, fair enough, but I hope you're aware that your opinion means less because you haven't had the balls to pick a pseudonym and put it on your post.

Thanks CW - appreciate that!

I'm KB. I hope my list is right cause I entered Jim's competition but guess what - he didn't print my submitted list - could this mean I got 10/10?!?!?!?!?!?!?
