Happy halloween!
Im dressing up as a bee! FionnTimes is dressing up as my honey in a gold skin tight catsuit. Right now we are drinking iced coffee made with a fucking Clover machine. Might never leave. . . .
We are your friends
Greetings from nyc! Right now im lying in bed in our apartment in brooklyn. Last night me and FionnTimes went to see justice dj at webster hall. It was beyond amazing. Like, BEYOND. For the past couple of days we've been having serious funsies. Drinking at our local- the Metropolitian in Williamsburg- playing pool non-stop, shopping, eating yumsies food and chilling in some great bars including my new favourite Barcade, which is a bar AND an arcade. Havent been near a computer since i got here so im blogging from my phone. Gonna try and crash mgmt tonight. Im dressing up as gold for hallowe'en. I just asked Fionn if he has a message for anyone. He says- 'does anyone have any black out curtains?' Tiger says 'im not cool. Big up the conservative gays, log cabin republicans. I dont mean it.' right. . . Ok, byesies

There's so much going on at DEAF that my head would probably melt if I tried to start blogging about it. So just check out the website instead. Lazy, me? Yes.
If you're looking for something else to do tonight, the recession-friendly The Hats Off party is on tonight in the Morrison. For €20, you get free cocktails for an hour and Halfset and DJ Will Softly are hitting it too. Funsies!

Tainer BANG!

You may have read me rabbitting on about my good mate Tainer Bang, her being the queen of poker, resident of the Apartment in the Sky, projector of L Word Mondays and chef McGinty. Well, now you can follow her adventures on her new blog. Just disregard anything bad she says about me cos it's all lies.
get up, stand up
So students and OAPs marched in their thousands on the Dail today.
The medical card business has already been taken care of, more or less. Regarding the student protest, I just got a bit of a bollocking off Phantom texters there when I suggested that the reason they won't get their way is that they don't vote as much as OAPs, so politicians won't give a fuck what they want.
Anyway, I wouldn't worry about the reintroduction of fees. There's no way the government is going to go ahead with that now after this medical card fiasco.
Personally, I think there should be a means test for medical cards. I don't see why a certain percentage of pensioners who are wealthy should have free health care. If you are rich and you can pay for it, then pay for it, and let the people who need it more get free health care.
It's the same with education. If you are Loaded McRichFace, say if your folks have a combined income of €150,000 a year or something, then why should you be allowed ping pong around various arts courses at the expense of the tax payer? The grants system should be scrapped and made more transparent so rich self-employed folk (aka farmers) can't diddle it. And students should stop complaining about not having enough money for food 'n' books etc considering the majority of students (myself included back in the day) spend most of their money on booze.
Shoot me now, etc.

we all get it in the end

Shortbus was loads of fun @ Pantibar last night; went with Barry Du Monde, Ragin Spice, Sonya, Peter, Fiona, Baby Helen, Lucy and Davih. Speaking of Davih, I forgot to mention that he was the star of the piece I wrote on the Gay Prom for the Tribune. We went to The Farm for chicken wings first with YoCo and Anthony. Yumsies, although not as yumsies as Elephant and Castle ones.
At the moment, I'm SO EXCITED about my trip to NYC next week. It's going to be a right old laugh. FionnTimes is coming straight from Brazil to meet me there, and then a bunch of mates who are running the New York marathon are coming over the next couple of days, and just now, Tiger just rang me to say he's coming with his mate Paul. Yaysies!
Watching Shortbus last night made me even more excited about my trip. It's my favourite city in the world. I try to get over once a year, and haven't been since May 07. I'm going to buy so many t-shirts...

Today is gonna be the day I'm gonna firestart with you
By now you shoulda some how realised I got the poison, I got the remedy

There are many out of space things that I would like to say to you
But I don't know how
I said maybe
You're no good (start the dance) so save me
And after all
You're my wondersmackmybitchupwall

Ridin' Bidin dunks Elaine from Seinfeld on Ellen
Gawker puts it well: "The resulting spectacle was like a Republican's fever dream of what could happen should the Obama/Biden ticket make it to the White House: Democrats stoning/drowning innocent straight women in the public square as gay-married lesbians cheer them on."
Watch it here.

Constantines - 'Kensington Heights'
It's straight-forward rock, but has a certain something about it that I like. Don't know why. Don't hate me.

What was Bill Cullen thinking?

HOW was Stuart not fired last night on the Apprentice? Pronouncing the name of the development incorrectly throughout a presentation, being flustered and nervous when he had to perform, talking loudly on the phone while they were trying to shoot the ad, being disorganised and a general muppet.
Ridiculous decision.

Your Tuesday evening sorted
Haven't seen Shortbus and are too scared to go back into Laser because you've racked up quite a considerable debt from rented DVDs you forgot to leave back (I'm looking at you, Tainer Bang)? Then fear not, Movies In Her Living Room @ Pantibar are normally on a Wednesday evening, but tomorrow, Panti is showing Shortbus.
Now, I don't know about y'all but this is in my top three favourite films EVER (next to a rotating cast of Gremlins, Wayne's World, Goodfellas, Stand By Me, Dogtown & The Z-Boys and Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.) If you haven't seen it, you MUST watch it. It's unmissable. Better still, watch if for free down at Pantibar tomorrow evening at 9pm. I'll be there!
Speaking of Pantibar, it's the cheapest gay pint in Dublin, you know. Click on this new poster for details.

I reckon Pantibar will be getting busier and busier as the boycott of the George becomes more widespread.

Jumping the couch/shark?
So the REAL Palin was on SNL with Tina Fey. Is this done now? I mean Fey's original sketches (the Clinton press conference and the Couric interview) were HILARIOUS. Now I feel as if it's just watered down. Fey has gone from completely ridiculing Palin to actually giving her a comic platform.

Amanda, Tora and Steven doing their thang
It seems like AGES ago Amanda Palmer's dancers, artists and general awesome dudes were staying in my gaff as they prepared for their massive tour that they're on now. I even forgot about it! And then I was looking up some videos, and have found some cool ones. Here's one with all of them in it. Tora is the lady on the extreme left, and Steven is on the right with black hair. Amanda rocks, obviously. Hope to see them again soon (probably in NYC for New Years. Yaysies)
Stellar!

Yo, pick up a copy of Stellar magazine, Ireland's newest glossy for women. It launched on Thursday and is pretty rad. Loads of reading in it and really good fashion - and of COURSE that's the best part of it because my homegirl YoCo is the fashion editor. Go YoCo! Lili aka Minky Von Fabrege has some deadly photees in it too.
Friday McGinty

Hit Kiss @ The Tivoli last night with the ADHD crew after pre-gaming in Tainer Bang's; Ragin Spice, Lucy, Dan, Brian Fucking Galwey, Lynn, Triona, Mishy, Karl, Helena, Baby Helen, Nikki... don't think I'm missing anyone.
It was funsies, especially the amazing dance-off between myself and Baby Helen that - and I don't think I'm really blowing this out of proportion - momentarily stopped the world from turning it was so awesome. Baby Helen won though, DANG.
Then we ate everything in the universe in Charlies.
Tonight, it's poker night with Tribune heads. My game has DEFO improved over the past couple of weeks, due to Tainer Bang's expert tuition, so hopefully I'll do well.
Oh, and tune in to Newstalk tonight at 8 to hear me talk about fun music stuff.
Enjoy the weekend, Rock.

Mark Wahlberg is hella aggressive
He should have really laughed off the AWESOME SNL sketch, 'Mark Wahlberg Talks To Animals', which was amazing. Instead he acts like a knob on Jimmy Kimmel:

Óró Mo Sleepyhead
Everyone loves 'Sleepyhead' by Passion Pit at the mo. And I'm LOVING the fact that 'Oro Mo Bhaidin' is sampled throughout the track. It was WRECKING MY HEAD as to what the melody was, but I just got it there a short while ago. The entire hook is ORO MO CHURAICHIN O, just really high-pitched. Hilarious. Has anyone spotted this yet, or is it too obvious?
The Organ: Thieves
So, it's International The Organ's New EP Is Out This Week Week. It's called 'Thieves', and here is a tune from it: 'Let The Bells Ring', which is a song that's probably over two years old.
There are five other songs on the EP, including this one, 'Fire In The Ocean':

How the internet changes language is always really interesting, and something I'm v nerdy about. Is a friend a friend anymore? Or just someone on a list of Facebook aquaintances? Is it really possible to laugh so much you roflcopter? Have abbreviations taken over daily speak? Abbreviations FTW? Or maybe you just talk lik a kitteh? And since when is 'Fail' a noun?

SoundCheck is gonna rawk!

I'm so excited about SoundCheck tomorrow night @ Spy on South William Street.
We're hooking up with Urban Outfitters to party with their Student Lockdown bash. I'm DJing before Dandelion in the shop, which will be offering a 15% discount tomorrow evening, so get down there!
Afterwards, the party hits SoundCheck, where Sarah Fox & the indie genius that are Skinny Wolves will be DJing. We've got all your favourites; cakes, awesome tunes, movie screenings and two-for-one cocktails (and coming from a big cocktail lover, I can tell you, Spy cocktails are amongst the best in the city. You can't get a better Raspberry Collins or Passionfruit Martini ANYWHERE ELSE, not to mention their yumsies mojitos and all of the other billion cocktails on the menu.) After that, we go late with SoundCheck///AfterParty and Le Cirque.
Le Cirque is a SAVAGE night, upstairs in Spy, all about fashion, art, electro and partying. This week Drag Queen Bingo is in th house. SoundCheck///AfterParty keeps it rocking in the Monkey Bar and the Lobby Bar @ Spy with our fabulous homies at Dublin Streets just added to the DJ bill, alongside Ed Mackey and myself.
Serious fun times! See y'all down there tomorrow from 7pm. Free in before 11pm, €5 after (two clubs in one venue + drink promos + cakes = pretty good deal!)

Dunzo?

NME says Madonna and Guy are finished. Oh wellsies. The Sun is reporting this morning that they will release an official statement today. Perez has more on that.
There was a long-standing rumour in noozpaper circles that they had in fact separated a good few years ago in New York and had some clause in their documents that meant they couldn't be released to the media as they usually are. This rumour used to crop up again and again anytime I went on press trips with tabloid journos from Britain. Who knows?

Were Bloc Party too fucked to play live at the Brazil MTV Awards? This video is a bit weird. Everyone else performing at the ceremony did it live.

Teenwitch
Got into this movie after Fight Like Apes recommended it to me. It is honestly the BEST MOVIE EVER. If you like total shiteously amazing films (Breakdance 2 Electric Boogaloo, Crossroads, Troll 2, A Ring of Endless Light etc), then you'll love this.
Check out this key scene:

My favourite five bands/artists of all time are...

5. Girls Aloud
4. MC Solaar
3. Jeff Buckley
2. Nirvana
1. Hole
I decided this just now. I have had a moment of clarity whereby I seem to be able to categorise what has been impossible for years.
In the top ten I would also have; Jay Z, Simon and Garfunkel, Abba, Third Eye Foundation and Yeah Yeah Yeahs.
The top twenty might feature; Chet Baker, Na Casadaigh, The Organ, and others I can't think of right now...

Call out for the Alternative
AQA (and other bukes)

Strange coincidence this morning. Last night, myself, Conor, Tiger and Tainer were trying to outsmart AQA by texting them difficult questions. We even sent them a question asking what was the best question they ever got (it turned out to be someone asking what was a better cereal with which to make a pair of trousers; Shreddies or Shredded Wheat?) We even asked them the meaning of life (answer: life is the result of a sequence of chemical reactions and has no underlying meaning.)
Then when I got into work this morning, a book 'Brilliant Answers by AQA' had landed on my desk. Strange, no? If you want to text AQA in Ireland, the number is 57275.
Anyway, I've started reading this one now. Other books I'm reading at the moment are 'One Fifth Avenue' by Candace Bushnell (not really feeling it), 'The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society' by Mary Ann Shaffer, and 'The Book of Weather Eye' by Brendan McWilliams.
Ze Weekend

Well, well, well. After a CRACKING night down at SoundCheck on Thursday, I brushed off my chest infection and missed my flight to London in the morning due to a passport disaster. I actually got so angry with the Ryanair people that I think my anger came full circle and an eerie calm washed over me. That said, I still thought about running on to the runway and sabotaging every one of their fucking hidious flying tubs of Utterly Butterly. But I didn't.
Everything happens for a reason, and on the next (Aer Lingus) flight I could get on, I met Angela aka the Queen of Music. I hadn't seen her in ages so it was great to catch up because she's so awesome-o. She told me Mercury was in retrograde which I why I missed my flight, which made me want to murder Ryanair staff less. Also, Angela had similar plans to me that night, so when we landed, we arranged to meet up.
I spent the day faffing around Primrose Hill and Camden, eating a GROSS salad and then went into Kentish Town to meet Dee for the Ting Tings and Fight Like Apes gig. The Apes were great as usual. Ting Tings were very good too, but live, you realise that a lot of their songs are quite thin. 'Great DJ' was awesome though. After that, just hung out with the Apes for a bit and went for a drink.
Next day, I met the wonderful Stephen(sies) for coffee and he showed me around his new home from home, the LSE, and also informed me that their library is called BLEEPS. Which is funny.
Of course because Ryanair is the devil, my flight home was delayed, but I still got back in time to make it to the Gay Prom, which was a larf. Yesterday, I caught up on X Factor and then went for a drink with Tainer Bang, Ragin Spice, Baby Helen, Conor (The Shark) and Tiger, and then played shithead, which was fun.
Also, Angela had similar plans to me that night, so when we landed, we arranged to meet up.

for the first time in my life...
... I had nearly arrived at the airport when I realised I had forgot my passport. Because I was early anyway, I got back to my gaff, picked up my passport and got to the airport 40 minutes before the flight. Ryanair didn't let me on. I've just had to buy another ticket on Aer Lingus for 4 times the price of my first ticket.

Grow a moustache, raise money for Action Prostate Cancer, join Team SoundCheck!

Hi everyone,
I’m heading a team of people raising money for the Action Prostate Cancer. I’m calling on all my male buddies to grow a moustache for the month of November (aka Movember) and get sponsorship for their natty new look. I'm getting together a team of Mo Bros (guys that grow Mo's) and Mo Sistas (girls that love moustaches) to help change the face of men's health. You can be part of it!
This Movember campaign is all about getting guys to tackle their own health issues by being proactive in the fight against prostate cancer... and I want you on my team. My team is called Team SoundCheck.
To join my Movember team go to http://ie.movember.com/ie/register and follow the steps.

Men's health is a major issue. Did you know:
- Cancer of the prostate was the most common cancer diagnosed in Ireland in 2005.
- More men die of prostate cancer per head of population in Ireland than do in England, Scotland and Wales.
The money raised by Movember is used to raise awareness of men's health issues and donated to Action Prostate Cancer (APC), an initiative of the Irish Cancer Society. APC will use the funds to raise vital awareness, educate men on risk factors for developing prostate cancer, and help to make a real difference in the lives of people affected by the disease.
Cheers,
More information is available at http://ie.movember.com/.
Movember is proud to partner the Irish Cancer Society.
stinger!
why, when I put an album into my computer, iTunes mixes up the order of the songs?
It's REALLY annoying.
The Debate

Watched bits of it this morning. In the words of Shania Twain, neither of them impressadmemuch. John McCain looks like a giant baby crossed with Alf. Obama was better on healthcare (what was McCain on about when asked the priviledge/right question and said it was a 'responsibility'?) and I'm glad Obama has finally brought up the 'bomb bomb Iran' song thing. That had kind of disappeared.

Why TV3's The Apprentice is good

1. Because Bill Cullen, although initially annoying, actually does ruffle the contestants up a bit.
2. It makes Dublin look cool - great camera work.
3. Jackie Lavin is brilliant - totally the secret star of the show.
4. The tasks aren't exactly glamourous, but they're still tough.
5. The website is pretty good, and I like the way they have dedicated web content.

6. They didn't fuck with the format. If it aint broke...
7. As intensely annoying as Mark is, he makes for good TV. I'm putting my money on him as the eventual winner, even though I want Shane to win.
Cons:
1. The contestants don't seem to be bitching enough between themselves, or about each other. Maybe this will change as the competition goes on. Or maybe Irish people are just more polite.

amazing

I saw this photo in the Guardian on Saturday. It's an Irish surfer - Fergal Smith from Mayo - surfing in Australia just a couple of metres away from a Great White shark. He didn't notice the shark until he saw the picture after. Just as well, I guess! It's estimated the shark weighed about 500lbs, so it was probably only a young 'un. But still: scaredsies.
If you're trying to make out the features of the shark, as far as I can see, its nose is to the left, tail on the right, so it's actually swimming towards him.
Tina Fey does Palin's debate: it's getting too easy...
Better than that? The skit on 'Mark Wahlberg Talks To Animals'. Brilliant:
Thou Shalt Not Grill

When we were in Grogan's last night, we were wondering what you would call stuff on the menu if you had a fast food restaurant during Biblical times.
So, far, this is what we came up with: The restaurant is called 'Thou Shalt Not Grill', and the a la carte menu is called 'The Three Wise Menu' and the budget menu is called 'The Euro Saviour Menu'.

Ze Weekend
My friend Sarah launched her first book on Friday night. I've started reading it, and it's excellent. It's called 'Where No One Can Hear You Scream' and is about murder and assault in the Wicklow Mountains. Go buy it!
After that, me, Tiger and YoCo went up to Tainer Bang's to play shithead, our new favourite card game (next to poker, of course.)
On Saturday, I got the dorsh out to AdoFemBo's for some MeNoFemBo recording. We now have an awesome new song that I won't say anything more about until it's up on MySpace.
That evening, we had a cocktail gathering in my gaff called 'Amaretto In The Ghetto: aka Mojitos in Monto', and some poker too.
On Sunday, I chilled the max, picked up the new demo from Ado, grabbed a slice in Steps of Rome with Sarah and went for pints with Ragin, Conor, FionnTimes, Tainer Bang, Shelly & co in Grogans.
