My most anticipated gig of 2009 so far?

Girls Aloud @ the O2, May 2nd.

Can't wait.

Girls Aloud are one of my favourite bands ever. They have a catalogue of tunes so amazing other bands would probably puke/kill/steal to have them. Their new single 'The Promise' has totally grown on me too. I wasn't too keen on it when I heard it first, because I thought it was a little dated, but I love it now.

My top ten Girls Aloud tunes?
10. Hoxton Heroes (B-side to 'Can't Speak French' and lyrically, probably the best analysis of 'indie landfill' around, which they wrote with Moonbaby)

9. The Show (another classic pop tune with a heavy euro-pop slant on the synths. Great lyrics too.)

8. The Promise (as I said, didn't dig it first, but love it now)

7. Sound Of The Underground (I think I love this song namely because it changed pop music when it was released. And the title and intention of it sticks the two fingers up to pop haters.)

6. Sexy! No, No, No (I love the vocal effects on the intro to this, complete genius)

5. No Good Advice (this kind of built on the sound of 'Sound Of The Underground' and has the classic 'My Sharona' sound that rock bands steal every 5 minutes. It's about a dispute the songwriter had with a record label or something.)

4. Something Kinda Ooh (when I met Desmond Tutu once, running through my head was "something kind of ooh, jumping Desmond Tutu," which is pretty wrong.)

3. Biology (their tenth single and simply a fucking amazing pop song. I think the piano riff is an Animals sample.)
2. Love Machine (I prefer the version that was on the Popjustice comp to the single release. The former version was recorded by Nadine and Cheryl, and is rawer and just cooler I guess. Arctic Monkeys did a nice cover of this too.)

1. Call The Shots (One of my favourite songs ever, just so perfect. Random fact: Smashing Pumpkins covered this track live.)

well, they are amazing! I was going to see them this year in Engerland, but it clashed with Electric Picnic, so I'm really excited about seeing them.

My fave GA song is Racey Lacey. How can you not adore a song with with the line "connoisseur of satin sheets"

Yey! Love Cheryl Cole and the gang...so going to get tickets!I think Love Machine would have to be my number 1 song of theirs though. It never fails to make me do crazy dancing when under the influence of copiious amounts of Heineken!

I like Cheryl, but I just can't imagine anyone who is married to the knob that is Ashley Cole being in anyway cool.

If anything her being married to the traitorous, empty headed, out of touch with reality fuck stick puts her right a the head of my Girl's Aloud "boy would I ..." list.

But surely the title and intention of Sound Of The Underground was marketability. I don't think there was any greater intention behind it than selling large numbers of records. I can understand liking Girls Aloud but they are corporate glove puppets. There primary reason for existence is profit making. There is no higher intention than that.
