Bet you're pissed off if you shelled out over €70 to see the Killers in Marlay Park on August 21st. They're playing The Academy the night before for €44.
I'm extremely biased seeing as I live really near Marlay Park, but it's such a nice venue for gigs if you don't mind slightly awkward location. If (and it's a very big if) the weather's nice, it's such a cool setting for a gig.
What's the big deal? The Killers are supported by Bloc Party @ Marlay, a band you'd easily pay €30 to see on their own. The Academy gig is a one-off 'intimate' gig, and if anything, I'd expect to pay MORE for that than for Marlay, knowing More Caviar, Dear?
However, if fans ARE going to be pissed off, maybe they should direct their ire at their beloved Killers, who obviously thought 'Hey, we're gonna be in Dublin the night before? Let's make a bit of extra cash'. You can take the boys out of Las Vegas...
@ Anon: I'd be pissed off if I'd bought a Marlay Pk ticket, because I would always prefer to pay more to see a band in a smaller gig setting.
Bloc Party is defo a bonus to see, even if it is a support slot, but aren't 'intimate' gigs usually way more expensive? It's a great deal for the fans to see The Killers for hella cheap somewhere like the Academy, but not if you've already shelled out €70 to see them in a field, thinking it was the only date you could catch them.
And yeah, it's all obviously initiated by the band, I didn't instruct anyone to direct their ire at anyone in particular...
That's what I said: I would have expected the smaller club gig to have been more expensive, knowing MCD. Still don't get the big deal, though - if a band I really loved was playing a big gig, great. If they also play a smaller, more exclusive gig the night before, even better. Nobody's forcing anyone to go to both.
They wouldn't have just announced a gig in The Academy, anyway, so why are people acting like they would have? That's like U2 going to New York and ONLY announcing a gig in a tiny bar. It's a bonus for Killers fans, like Justin Timberlake was supposed to play Vicar Street the same night of his RDS gig last year. Why was that idea so wonderful, and this such a 'rip off'? People will moan about fucking anything in this country.
I was lucky enough to grab two tickets for the academy gig, gonna be an excellet show. Marley park is still a good setting though. But I know which I would prefer!!
UnaRocks does not UPLOAD music. All music links provided are ones that already exist online, or mp3s from band and record label websites. If you are in a band / band management and wish me to remove any of these links, I will, of course, oblige. UnaRocks believes that music sharing actively enriches our musical climate. Music sharing is as old as music itself. People who download music buy more records, go to more gigs, and buy more music merchandise than those who do not. The recent phenomonan of online music sharing has been credited to the ongoing resurgance in the live music scene across our world, and the increasing successes of 'indie' or 'underground' bands. In turn, if you are in a band / band management and wish me to post a link to a song for the pleasure of the readers of UnaRocks, please do not hesitate to contact me by commenting on this blog. Peace.

Don't cry Marley Parkers, they'll be no chance of getting your hands on these tickets anyway
