Hang on a minute, there's a difference between boycotting something and voicing disapproval. I can understand the atletes wanting to participate but there's are they really such a selfish, unopinionated bunch? The athletes are the single most powerful group in the Games and have the chance to do good and spread the word. No one's asking them to rule out competing entirely but disapproval could be reasonably voiced. Or are the atheletes so obsessed with their own personal zeal, they couldn't give a fuck about an oppressed nation? Particularly shameful to consider how hard we had to fight against occupation.
I also understand your point regarding the Special Olympics and believe there was a protest of sorts but as the event receives a fraction of the support regular Olympics receives, it's not surprising it didn't gather further momentum...
Ireland boycotting the olympics wouldn't send out much of a message the EU or the US would. We've only got about 20 people going, no-one would notice them missing and their hardly all sure things for medals. why rob the irish athletes of a chance to go to the olympics if they'll be the only one's sitting it out, and as we all now Ireland is more of a bandwagon jumper than a trend starter.
UnaRocks does not UPLOAD music. All music links provided are ones that already exist online, or mp3s from band and record label websites. If you are in a band / band management and wish me to remove any of these links, I will, of course, oblige. UnaRocks believes that music sharing actively enriches our musical climate. Music sharing is as old as music itself. People who download music buy more records, go to more gigs, and buy more music merchandise than those who do not. The recent phenomonan of online music sharing has been credited to the ongoing resurgance in the live music scene across our world, and the increasing successes of 'indie' or 'underground' bands. In turn, if you are in a band / band management and wish me to post a link to a song for the pleasure of the readers of UnaRocks, please do not hesitate to contact me by commenting on this blog. Peace.

"Mr Hickey said not one Irish athlete or official has expressed reservations about travelling to the event."
Toads. That's disgraceful.
Or maybe they've sacrificed everything poured blood, sweat and tears into training for the biggest event of their lives.
Maybe thats the reason. Would you boycott in those circumstances? Doubt it.
Why didn't the do gooders boycott the special olympics when they were held in China?
