why do breast cancer awareness campaigns always have to involve women getting naked?

Amy Winehouse is the latest to strip off. I know they're probably thinking "if we get some slebs naked, then we'll get more coverage and thus increase more awareness," but at the same time, I doubt a few shots of Amy Nakedhouse in the Sun with dodgy puns (just like the one I've made) are going to make women turn around and check for lumps - are they?

On a similar topic, Dante and the Lobster blogs about some new Pink Ribbon campaign ads:

"Even if your body is riddled with cancer, you still better be fuckable!"

Cheers, Una.
I was shocked to find ads that callous and demeaning. Who works for that organization? 13 year-old boys?

Here is the most amazing article about that very subject - Barbara Ehrenreich got breast cancer and dissected the industry and culture surrounding the disease. Absolutely caustic, and spot on.

Is the "getting naked" requirement the reason why there is very little on mens cancers (que the sound of Des Bishop unzipping)
