Congratulations to Super Extra Bonus Party who won the Choice Music Prize last night in Vicar Street for their debut album (which you can buy here.)As a judge, it was an invigorating, intense and fierce experience that personally and professionally I will take a lot from but that I certainly wouldn't want to be doing every year. Tough going, no joke.
Fair play to Jim and Dave the organisers of the Prize. As anyone there on the night will surely agree, it's a fantastic and valuable platform and showcase of the best of Irish music. It matters.
After leaving the judging room, I could hardly talk to everyone because it's such an intense buzz. But after it was all over, I kind of chilled out a bit and spent a lot of the night chatting to Nadine, Edel 'Black with Two Sugars' Coffey and Peter, Nialler, Aoife McIndieHour, the Delo boys, Julie, Adrian and of course The Boners.
Then I went home to reflect!

I was having a blast until... Speak slow was on and we were havin the banter and some crazy grabs me by the scruff of my neck and tells me she's going to kill me. I (only on my third single drink) calmly turned around and said sorry if i stood on your toes I didn't mean to but in fairness you were just way too aggressive with me, when hugey mc hugeerson her friend steps in and holds me back (i wan't pushing forward) as if I'm wielding a knife and want dyke blood. it ruined the last 15mins for me because I thought i was going to get pounded if i lifted foot from floor.
Glad thats off my chest, if your reading this hugey I don't like your style. Or appreciate your nastiness. Ok, I'll shut-up about it now.

Great gig by Tegan and Sara on Wednesday. I went along with two super-duper fans, including the lady-friend, plus a few newly-introduced types like myself. I really liked the gig, as I say, and we were tucked down the back, near the bar and/or seating area (for our auld, weary bones..), so thankfully must have managed to avoid any lesbo drama. In fact, we had lovely friendly randomers surrounding us. I guess we were the lucky ones.
The crowd was a bit strange, generally, I thought: I couldn't believe people were actually heckling while one of the girls was doing a chatty bit. I mean, Jebus..
So looking forward to Uh Huh Her tomorrow, now. Yum!
