Sies!

Big ups to Rick for giving 'sies' a mention as one of the newly invented words of the year on his show on 2fm today.

Many people claim to have invented the 'sies disease' (as in hisies, byesies, nosies, hungoversies, drinksies), but they are lying. The sies disease originated with Burco and Lili who started calling photos 'photees' in college when they were studying photography because everyone was too serious.

Then one time I was asleep on the seat tray of a plane sitting next to an old couple - and I talk in my sleep (and sometimes I talk so loud, I wake myself) - and I woke up screaming 'OOPSIES' and obviously the old couple thought I was crazy. So I told this story and everyone was amused.

From there 'hisies' and 'byesies' and 'nosies' came into play, swiftly followed by 'crysies' and 'diesies'.

The 'sies disease' then mysteriously found it's way into 'Loving It' in the Sunday Tribune magazine. I have no idea how that happened.

Since then, its influence has been wide and varied. It's safe to say that substantial parts of Dublin and beyond now slip 'sies' into their vocab. If it annoys you, blame me.

Byesies!

That's hysterical.

Becs: that would make my life!

Emmet: it's true! I woke myself up last night kind of screaming because I had this really weird dream about these doctors who brought me to this office on Leeson Street that kind of looked like the lobby of Stringfellows to make me give up smoking, but then said it was a sleep clinic but actually they were totally evil and hypnotized me and planted all these evil thoughts in my head and when I woke up, I knew they had done it, but I didn't know which thoughts were from them and which were mine and I totally freaked out.

The slight variation of "byedies" is now my favourite at the end of a phone conversation.

I am conscious that I'm way to old to be doing that.
