Commenting, Josh Schwartz, creator and executive producer of 'The OC', said: "This feels like the best time to bring the show to its close."
He continued: "Thanks to the hard work of our cast, crew and writers, we have enjoyed our best season yet, and what better time to go out than creatively on top. It has been an amazing experience and a great run. For a certain audience, at a certain time, 'The OC' has meant something. For that we are grateful."

the last series of The OC was shocking. That whole Johnny Marissa thing - it deserves to be cancelled after that crap. But having said that I did download the first 2 epsidodes of Series 4 the other day and loved it.
yeah, the Johnny / Marissa thing was rubbish alright, also, the music got a bit shite.
I think I'll convert to Ugly Betty instead.
*UPDATE*
While the end of 'The OC' has been announced, the show's creator Josh Schwartz has been given the green light for a pilot episode of a new series called 'Gossip Girl'.
Variety reports that the teen drama is based on the series of books of the same name; it is set in the world of New York teenagers and their parents, as told by an anonymous blogger.
Schwartz has also got the go-ahead for a pilot episode for a new series called 'Crumbs'. It is described as an action-drama about spies and twentysomethings.
