see y'all in two weeks :)

Una

owweeee :(

I just hurt my foot :(

duke special @ Sugar Club

we went to the duke special gig. It was AWESOME. We drank rum. Yer man, Duke (aka Peter) is so nice. He thanked me for the nice review I gave him in the Tribune. I like when people are nice to me, so that was nice. After that . We went to Reynards and drank a bottle of champagne (Moet = cheap). Then we meant to go to the George, but ended up in Rick's Burgers. I walked home listening to Oppenheimer.

Oh, by the way, I'm going to Thailand (via Amsterdam, obviously on Sunday morning). Mightn't blog until then. See yiz i two weeks bitches!

Joyriding FECKERS!

HOW many times do I have to ring Kevin Street garda station to alert them to joyriders trying to run people over and fucking keeping me awake awake with their screechy skids and crashing their fucking cars until these goddamn kids stop stealing wheels and wrecking them beside my gaff?

(secretly, I want to be in their gang)

google is my boyfriend

Out of my little persistent disease 'ill do anything but actually sit down and write this goddamn article' (it's very similar to 'i don't want to study so I'll just clean my room and so some stupid and ineffective organisation') I googled UnaRocks. And loads of stuff came up, so thank you Las Vegas Weekly, Blog of the Day, and Blog of the Week for linking me in the past while. People read this, cwazy! Cwazy in wuv. Woot. etc.

I've got Peter Bjorn and John level Writer's Block at the moment, peeps. GIVE A SISTER A HAND! Ugh, and I've run out of wine :( Trying my best to get a 2,000 word article finished this evening, and it's six minutes to midnight. I fear I'll have to make empty promises to my deceited brain again. 'Oh, it's ok Una. You just go to bed now and then get up early and finish it.' I don't do early. The lies, THE LIES.

Ok, delerium. Must do some work :(

Holy Baby!

Yesterday, University Church on St Stephen's Green was the setting for my AWESOME niece's Christening.

action shot!

Possibly the coolest person in the universe, Fr 'LA' Brian was in charge of proceedings and Amelia was fantastic as she didn't cry AT ALL! What a rocker.

Back home to Dun Laoghaire, I think I ate my body weight in chicken a la king, pork mustard thingy, lasagne and 20,000 variations of choclate cake. Also Estimated Una Consumption (EUC) included a few bottles of champers and 'mixn it up' red and white wine relays. And too much coffee actually.

Aoife, Amelia and Rav

It was loads of fun, because I hadn't had a chillin day in ages and there were loads of people hanging around who I hadn't seen in a while, so fun by the tonne.

*applause*

Well, the extremely random stand up gig with Eabha in Ballymun in Irish went pretty well! Eabha and I racked our rains and our beer bottles for material before we went out and came up with jokes about the Ryder Cup and a song about the PDs. There are no photos from the stage coz Burco was taking videos (which are pretty funny), so here are just a couple of us hanging out.

Eabha and our beerinspiration

It was a bit of a powerhouse of literary families actually and a nice little reunion. Burco Sumpremo, Cunco is now the project manager of the Axis Centre in Ballymun, Cunco's Mum who used to teach us, Eabha Rosenstock of course and Aine Macken, whose grandad Walter wrote one of my favourite books when I was a kid - 'Flight Of The Doves'.

Aine and Burco

It was fun, nostalgic, we talked about school, and the ridiculous stuff that used to happen, and what has happened since.

Afterwards, we got a taxi in to town. Everyone else went to the Czech Inn, and I wet home, via Chicken Hut (fresh 'n' halal).

Cluas gig

upstairs in Whelans

Cluas gig went off last night. It was bit of a dead night in town, so we didn't get as much people in as we would have liked to, but it was still loads of fun and the bands all played brilliantly.

Eabha aka Rosie

After hanging out with the boys from 66e and Lost, me and Eabha went home to write our material for my SECOND EVER STAND UP GIG (which is happening tonight, in Irish, in Ballymun. How do I get myself into these situations again?). But I was locked out (d'oh) so instead we went to the Tenters and then cut our losses and went to find Elaine (and keys) in the Front Lounge. Unfortunately, this turned into a few drinks and a wee bit o'dancing.

66e boys

Anywhoo, smart Rosey went home while Elaine and I walked home and then realised that we couldn't go any further without garlic cheese chips. Found a random (very late open) chipper on Clanbrassil Street and went home and ate and listened to Duke Special.

Yeah, so if any of you out there are around Ballymun tonight, I'll be throwing out the gags in the Axis (Access, Aksess? Who knows?) Centre. Wish me luck!

Backstabber!

I think this is my favourite Dresden Dolls song:
www.myspace.com/dresdendolls

I think if Joan Collins was going to write a punk cabaret song, this would be it. The lyrics are so awesome!

here's the mp3

"the record goes from blue to gold
so thank you for all your help
I know you want to jump around
but try to contain yourself
you always struck me as the type to take it lightly
but now you’re gonna have to shut your mouth or fight me…

backstabber, backstabber….

you’re all alone you’re all over
the popular magazines will never care what do you care
you’re down with the japanese
but you’ve got no right to sit there saying I abuse it
when you only sleep with girls who say they like your music

backstabber backstabber backstabber backstabber backstabber backstabber backstabber backstabber

backstabber! hope grabber!
greedy little fit haver!
god, I feel for you, fool…..
shit lover! off brusher!
jaded bitter joy crusher!
failure has made you so cruel….

rotten to the core
rotten to the core

rotten like a crackwhore
backing out out the backdoor
show us what you’re good for
stick it to the noise board
come on join the bloodsport
show us some support, still
working at the drugstore
is it because you’re A FUCKING

backstabber! hope grabber!
greedy little fit haver!
god, I feel for you, fool…..
shit lover! off brusher!
jaded bitter joy crusher!
failure has made you so cruel….

so don’t tell me what to write
and don’t tell me that I’m wrong……
and don’t tell me not to reference my songs within my songs

so here we go the open road
is covered with taco stands
and you can stop we’ll drop you off
and write to you when we land

backstabber backstabber backstabber backstabber backstabber backstabber backstabber backstabber

backstabber! backstabber!backstabber! hope grabber!greedy fucking fit haver! BACKSTABBER!"

What Tunes Are They Playing During New York Fashion Week?

Agenda knows

In other news, I was meant to interview Mark E Smith from The Fall yesterday evening, but he never rang (not surprising). What was surprising was a very funny phone message from him when I got into work this morning. It's always funny to hear people with such distinctive voices talk about normal stuff.

I have a sore throat :(

Can't spell Spiegeltent without Una (or something...)

Had mucho fun in the Spiegeltent in the IFSC (as part of Dublin's Fringe Festival) on Friday night. Big love to Anthony for the UnaRocks-shaped space on the guestlist. First off, I headed up to Chapter One where the Remedy crew were finishing dindins. Had a nice glass of wine and then headed back to Party Central before hitting IFSC territory. Corina and myself got dragged into some van where the festival people were filming stuff to project around the place. We told some pirate jokes and sung a rousing rendition of Corina's composition - 'Una, Why You Be So Mean To Me?'

After a drink in the Harbour Master, we headed in to the tent which was just splendid and then enjoyed Moodyman and Dorfmeister. The Quigo arrived with a very drunken Magoo who had to be sent home :(

Anyway, the night ended with me, Quigo, Corina, Anthony, MC Earl Zinger and Richard Dorfmeister eating kebabs in Zaytoons. I have some photees which I will upload later.

Today I am having my traditional Sunday chill out session. Waiting for the match to start (go on Mayo!) and me and Laney are gonna catch Little Miss Sunshine in the cinema later on.

Oh, by the way, there's loads of awesome stuff going on in the Spiegeltent - tonight The Immediate, Sack and The Walls are playing as part of the Sunday Roast and tomorrow, me and Burco are gonna check out The Things and Stagger Lee.

Have a good rest of the weekend folks.

Una

YunaTube

Believe it or not, these are the first videos I've uploaded on YouTube. So behind the times.

Anyway, the first one happened in my apartment at aout 4am a month or two ago when the place was invaded by drunk frisbee players. I am screaming FILM THINGS loudly because I may or may not have had quite a bit of Green Island rum to drink.

The second one features Anthony djing in the VIP area at Hi:Fi and me attempting to show how nice the place was and Pierre doing a little dance.

Enjoy! And link your videos below.

bye Aoibhinn :(

Met Aoibhinn on Wednesday night for a London farewell - she's off next week to study her masters in UCL (something to do with brainy physics, biology complexities or something). I'll miss her loads, but it also leaves the door open for plenty of fun weekends in Londingtown. Went to the Morgan where we had some pear Kopparberg. I was V jealous of her Rose of Tralee lighter (I want one, someone get me one please). Then we headed to meet her NASA buddies at the Porterhouse where there was a free bar for some reason (brainy people get free alcohol it seems).

In other news, I just got sent the new Juliette and the Licks record (Four On The Floor) and the new Veils one (Nux Vomica) both of which I am incredibly excited about.

If you want the real low down on Mary Harney resigning as leader, check out http://blogorrah.com - hilarious stuff.

HWCH photoshoot this weekend, yay!

Must dash, busy busy.

Una
PS shout out to Meadzer, Maco and Anthony - hope y'all are having a fun time in NYC, eat some Krispy Kremes for me please.

Electric Picnic: The Verdict

Eep! I've been so busy that I haven't even had the time to talk about Electric Picnic.

Anywhoo, got down on Saturday with Meadzer and Lili. Was running around the arena before it had opened trying to find the media room when a friendly face in a golf cart whizzed me over to the VIP area. Randomly, that friendly face turned out to be John Reynolds. Filed a news story in the morning, which was grand and then went about enjoying myself.

Caught Delorentos who put on an awesome set at the big tree. I'm informed their album is out early in the new year - can't wait! Everything after that is a bit of a blur really. Michael Franti was good, Bloc Party were AWESOME! It started raining and the lights came through the sheets of rain and they sung Modern Love and it was amazing. After that, um, I remember spending almost the entire New Order set queuing for the bathroom with Sarah and Stuart Clarke from Hotpress drinking a bottle of champers. Meadzer, Lili and I also drank FAR too much vodka and cranberry. Then we watched Groove Armada. Oh, and then we went to the Silent Disco which was fantastic. Got lost in the woods looking for our car (where we were sleeping) but due to my amazing navigation we eventually stumbled upon it.

The next morning was seriously sore, but still, we managed to catch Dublin Gospel Choir, Duke Special, Lisa Hannigan, Hot Chip some comedy tent stuff and of course YEAH YEAH YEAHS. I cried during Maps. It was unbelievable. Then ummmmmm, can't remember, oh, actually before that we saw a bit of Amadou & Mariam and a bit of Elbow too, but that night was so much fun because Basement Jaxx were amazing. I'd seen bits of their set before, but this was totally brilliant. There was a little raised platform in the VIP area at it was the first time EVER that I've seen people backstage at something not trying to just pose and look cool, everyone was just giving it loads so the atmosphere was excellent.

Other news from the weekend; Sarah's car not starting on Sunday morning - thank god for Monaghan boys with jump leads, Kelly Osbourne looking V pissed off backstage with her boyf from The Fields, me betting a random chick to stroke Jonathon Ryse-Myers' face (which she did), saying hey to loads of people - the lovely Susan, Deirdre, Lindsey from LHP, Dermot head honcho of the Loose, Joe O'Shea with his fantastic 'Pedro Lacks Political Experience' t-shirt, Dan from Friction, Julie Feeney, Kieran from Delorentos, Conor from Lakota, Michael from V2, Glenda, Tom Dunne, Larissa - actually managing to meet up with loads of people from the Tribune and plenty of other fun. Today is probably the first day I feel normal.

On a whole, the festival was way better than last year; more spread out, nice food, amazing vibe, no hassle, lovely security, loads of random stalls, secret woods fun, and generally smiley happy people. Roll on next year!
