Lili makes another award winning comment

Me: keep next Saturday night free because we're going to that gig in the Village...

Lili: Oh yeah, what are they called? 'Slapping The Postal Service'...

Me: Dude, it's 'Clap Your Hands Say Yeah'

You gotta love her.

BOSTON GLOBE REVIEW:
"The Bleedin Bleedins' curious, jocular name conjures an image of a fun pop-punk outfit. And ''Life Without Computers" is certainly an amped-up, energetic affair, with an overall good-time vibe. However, this Boston trio's self-released debut is seriously packed with anthemic power rock. These kings of the catchy chorus mix power pop with alt-rock, without hiding other influences as varied as U2 and the Strokes. The propulsive, melodic stand-out ''Tonight" launches the CD and is powered as much by the yearning in Michael Coen's moody, urgent voice as it is by drummer and multi-instrumentalist David Franz's tight, driving rhythms. ''The Lights Are Out" is a weighty grungy rocker, highlighted by Irish guitarist Barry Kelly's cascading, twinkling chords -- a sound that recalls U2's The Edge, and one that crops up throughout the disc. The warm and pulsing ''One More Minute" has a hooky chorus and a seductive lilt reminiscent of early Strokes. Affable, danceable, and emotional, and with tunes that stick around, ''Life Without Computers" has plenty of heart. A bleedin' one, of course." - THE BOSTON GLOBE

I Bet That'd Look Good In The Bank Account

The Arctic Monkeys have sold 120,000 copies of their debut album on the first day sales in the UK. They play tonight @ The Ambassador with Maximo Park, We Are Scientists and Mystery Jets. It's sold out, obviously.

Surely these sales put to bed the presumption that downloaders don't buy records? This is a band that was made by people downloading their music for free, and now they'll make a whole lot of money for Domino Records, and for record companies who manage other bands who sound like them. So fuck anyone who prosecutes people just wanting to hear a few tunes. Here's the Arctic proof - it's good for everyone.

"It's The Slacker Lifestyle That We Do So Well" - Ben Kweller

I have been a blg slacker. The worst crime of all. The reason for this is that I have been a real-life-non-slacker. And being busy means Ms Blog suffers. Which sucks.

I was SO tired coming back from London because of working (and partying) too hard. So last week was full of workiness. Hmmm, what happened?

Burco came home last Friday as a surprise. AWESOME! I was sitting in Lili's gorgeous new flat in Smithfield when Burco entered to a soundtrack of 100 Greatest Air Guitar Songs on VH2 and cans of Heineken opening. Later, we went onto the Dice Bar and then to my flat to round it all off.

Saturday brought my mammoth house warming. Messy, messy, messy.

And Sunday - the ridiculously good Maximo Park gig in Limerick. Lili and I headed down on the train to our hotel. Limerick freaked Lili out. It's the kind of place you expect to turn up one day as the set of Grand Theft Auto. Cop cars screaming, people screaming and of course, Maximo Park fans screaming in a room with less that 300 people. We hung out with the guys after - nice little chat with Paul Smith followed by a late night drinking session with the drummer and bassist, topped off with apples and red bull in their dressing room. Rawk. They're playing in Dublin tonight with Artic Monkeys in the Ambassador. It would be rude not to go. Rude.

Photos of the Limerick gig to follow, and I'm back in the blog party, I swear.

PS: I was on TV today talking about strippers - just in case anyone caught it. Random. Random.

London Baby!

Greetings from the basement of my hotel in Paddington, London. It's all good. Had dinner with Peter Stringfellow and his lovely fiancee Bella last night at his club. Extremely random, and lots of fun.

Not much else happening, met up with Dee, Rav, Lisa and Paul and after Stringfellows, went to a club full of footballers wives and Moet in jugs (some weird licensing thing, so they can stay open until 6.30.) Don't ask me.

Have substituted the Moet for Powerade today. Wise move.

Off to Harry Potter cast call for Luna Lovegood @ Warner Brothers tomorrow morning. Equally random. Sometimes, you really have to wonder...

I love Maximo Park!

I love Maximo Park. Well, you all know this, but today I love them even more as I interviewed the lovely Paul Smith, their lead singer, who was so sweet, smart and generally pleasant. The interview won't be written up for a bit, but when it is, I'll post a link.

In other Maximo Park news, Lili and I have managed to snare some guestlist space for their invite only gig in front of around 300 people at Dolan's Warehouse in Limerick on Sunday 22nd of January. Should be a blast.

You can read more about it (and get tickets!) here: www.heinekengreenroomsessions.ie
